If you're staying at Surf Chalet Holidays, one of the very best days out right on your doorstep is the stunning coastal walk from Carbis Bay to St Ives.
This short section of the famous South West Coast Path offers spectacular sea views, golden beaches, and one of the most scenic approaches to St Ives you'll find anywhere in Cornwall. Best of all, it's suitable for most walkers and can easily be combined with a ride on the charming St Ives Bay Line railway for a memorable day out.
Why We Love This Walk
The walk from Carbis Bay to St Ives is only around 1.2 miles (1.9 km) and follows a well-maintained section of the South West Coast Path. Although there are a few gentle inclines and steps, it is considered one of the easier coastal walks in the area, making it ideal for families, couples, and anyone wanting to enjoy Cornwall's breathtaking scenery without tackling a lengthy hike.

As you leave Carbis Bay, you'll be rewarded with panoramic views across the turquoise waters of St Ives Bay. On a sunny day, it's easy to see why this stretch of coastline is often compared to destinations much further afield.
Keep an eye out for:
Stunning views over Carbis Bay Beach
The picturesque St Ives Bay Line railway running below the path
Wildflowers and coastal wildlife
Perfect photo opportunities around every corner
The beautiful approach into St Ives overlooking Porthminster Beach

Arriving in St Ives
One of the highlights of the walk is the way St Ives gradually comes into view.
The path leads you towards Porthminster Beach before bringing you into the heart of this charming seaside town. From here, you can spend a few hours exploring:
The cobbled streets and independent shops
The bustling harbour
Art galleries and local studios
Beach cafés and restaurants
The famous surfing and swimming beaches
Whether you're stopping for a Cornish pasty, an ice cream, or a leisurely lunch overlooking the sea, St Ives offers plenty of ways to make a day of it.

Take the Scenic Train Back
Don't fancy walking both ways? The good news is that you don't have to.
The St Ives Bay Line connects St Ives and Carbis Bay, with the journey taking only around five minutes. The train hugs the coastline and offers wonderful sea views, making it an attraction in its own right. Many visitors choose to walk one way and take the train back for the perfect combination of sightseeing and relaxation.
In fact, some visitors say the railway journey is one of the most scenic short train rides in the UK, thanks to its uninterrupted views across St Ives Bay.
If you're travelling in a group, be sure to ask for a "Group Save" ticket for great prices too.
